This Valentine’s Day, Help Share the Love

February 13, 2018

Help a Soldier to Call HomeHolidays can feel challenging for the spouses and partners of deployed service members. Surrounded by images of togetherness and joy, while you’re worrying about your loved one who’s serving far away, may conjure some conflicting feelings of loneliness and anxiety.

Valentine’s Day can be especially challenging, because you’re inundated with commercials and social media posts celebrating relationships, while the person you love most is far away. It can be isolating and stressful to reflect on their absence or their service in a dangerous combat area.

At Cell Phones For Soldiers, we understand the importance of keeping loved ones connected during deployment, which is why our Minutes That Matter program has given over 300 million minutes of free talk time to the troops.

We know that our military families are strong. Military wives, husbands, girlfriends and boyfriends understand that their partner is serving a cause bigger than them, and they are resilient in ways that we admire every day! But it’s OK to acknowledge the challenges of deployment on relationships: the worry about your loved one’s safety; the anxiety of gaps in communication during missions, black-outs and weather emergencies; and the sheer amount of work that goes into running a household without your “other half.”

So if you want to ignore holidays like Valentine’s Day, or wait to celebrate them when your spouse or partner returns home safety, that’s totally understandable. Or, if you want to turn Valentine’s Day into a different kind of celebration, you can do that, too. You are not alone.

Our mission is to keep military families connected. If you have an old cell phone, smart phone, tablet or MP3 player, you can donate it to Cell Phones For Soldiers—we use the income from recycling to purchase talk time for the troops. If you’d like to request a free calling card for your loved one who is serving, please fill out the form on our website to get started!

Cell Phones For Soldiers is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Founded in 2004, we have given more than 300 million minutes of free talk time to our troops through our Minutes That Matter program; and helped more than 3,000 veterans through our Helping Heroes Home program.
