Capital One Partners With Cell Phones for Soldiers to Donate Up to 6 Million Minutes to Active Duty Military and Veterans

“Every Second Counts” Campaign Provides a Platform to Engage Capital One’s Mobile Customers in a Cause to Support Our Nation’s Heroes and Their Families

Capital One is helping active duty military members and veterans connect with family and loved ones by donating talk time to Cell Phones for Soldiers, a nonprofit that keeps military families connected by providing free communication tools to those serving overseas in the United States military.  Through Capital One’s “Every Second Counts” campaign, the company will donate talk time to US military when customers use the company’s mobile banking app.  For every new user login, Capital One will donate 60 seconds of talk time and an additional 10 seconds of talk time for specific mobile transactions, such as viewing their transactions, checking Capital One deals, and paying their credit card bill

The company has set a goal to donate 6 million minutes to Cell Phones for Soldiers through this effort, which will conclude on January 18, 2013.

“Every Second Counts is a great way for our mobile business to support a cause that makes a difference in the lives of the men and women who serve our country by helping connect them with their family and loved ones,” said Toby Russell, VP of Digital.  “Capital One has a longstanding history of supporting our military service members and their families and this is one small way we are helping to give back to those who have given so much.”

Millions of customers use Capital One’s mobile app every day to carry out transactions such as paying a bill, checking their balance, redeeming rewards and checking their latest Capital One deals, which saves our customers time and money.

“The impact Cell Phones for Soldiers has directly correlates to the amazing support we have from partners like Capital One,” said Brittany Bergquist, co-founder of Cell Phones for Soldiers. “This program is one of the easiest ways Capital One customers can make a difference for our troops.”

Since Capital One’s partnership with Cell Phones for Soldiers began three years ago, Capital One associates and customers together have donated approximately 500,000 minutes to troops and their families. Today, all Capital One Bank branches are a donation drop-off point for customers to recycle mobile phones and accessories. Every phone donated equates to 60 minutes of talk time.
