Three Thousand Livonia, Mich., Students to Receive Pizza Party for Supporting Cell Phones for Soldiers

DETROIT (Feb. 15, 2011) – Chevrolet, the GM Military Discount, Little Caesars® Pizza and 99.5 WYCD Detroit’s Country will honor Churchill High School and Holmes Middle School this month with a pizza party for its used cellular phone collection efforts benefiting the nonprofit Cell Phones for Soldiers.

The Livonia Public Schools were challenged with a system-wide cellular phone collection drive beginning in 2010. Together the conglomerate collected more than 3,000 cellular phones in December alone, garnering more than 180,000 minutes of FREE calls home for U.S. military serving overseas. The phones were donated to Cell Phones for Soldiers, a 501(c)(3) dedicated to providing free communication tools to troops serving around the world. Of the 24 schools that participated in the program, Churchill High School and Holmes Middle School collected the most phones for the charity.

“It was rewarding to watch the students get behind this collection effort for our troops,” said Ken McMullen, senior communications specialist of Livonia Public Schools. “It is so important for our youth to understand the importance of giving back to the community, and we are grateful for the corporate partners who came together to teach students about philanthropy and honor them for their efforts.”

Chevrolet and the GM Military Discount have a history of supporting military causes. In 2010, the duo partnered with Cell Phones for Soldiers and vowed to provide $1 million in funds for communication programs through the collection of used mobile phones and cash donations.

“Cell Phones for Soldiers is well aligned with our company’s mission to support those who protect our freedom and serve our country,” said Mark Degnan, director of local advertising and marketing/training for the GM Military Discount. “Not only do we salute their efforts, but we salute the youth of Livonia Public Schools for their drive and passion to help our service men and women connect with family for free.”Little Caesars stores across the country began supporting Cell Phones for Soldiers in March of 2010. Since the partnership began, Little Caesars customers have donated more than 24,000 phones to the charity. To honor the students of Churchill High School and Holmes Middle School, pizza will be provided by Little Caesars. Churchill High School will celebrate with 2,100 students in three separate lunch segments on Feb. 15 at 10:50 a.m. ET, on Feb. 16 at 11:25 a.m. and again on Feb. 17 at 11:55 a.m. Holmes Middle School will receive its pizza party on Feb. 23 at 11:15 a.m., Feb. 24 at 11:45 a.m. and on Feb. 25 at 12:15 p.m.
